Synopsis:

For most people, adolescence is an exciting period in their lives when they experiment with various activities in order to form their own identities and move towards independence. In this process, they tend to take risks and peers play an important role in their development. Some may end up developing addictive behaviours that affects their future in the long term.

This workshop will focus on two common addictions among youths – alcohol and cyber/gaming addiction. Participants will learn more about the development of addiction; youth drinking pattern and the additive nature of online games, and strategies to help young persons with such addiction issues. There will also be some discussion on engaging youths using the frameworks of Choice Theory and Motivational Interviewing.

This workshop is useful for helping professionals who engage youths from the age of 13 and above.

Suitable For:
Individuals working with youths such as social service workers and teachers.
